MENSELIJKE TREKJES, THE DOCUMENTARY
ANIMATED, FILMED, EDITED, INTERVIEWD AND VISUALIZED - CO-ANIMATED BY LAETITIA ROLING,SOUNDSCAPE BY ARNOLD MATTHIJS.

In this (still under construction) poetic-abstract portrait documentary I’m bringing an ode to my surrounding; the people who I look up to, who made me, who - just like me -experienced life and so created an critical perspective on life.  Want to publish or preview the documentary ‘Menselijke Trekjes’? Growing led me to raise some questions. Putting on my “critical glasses” made me see that many people surround themselves with people who think, look and live the same. Maybe even have the same ethnicity and being surrounded with the same social classes. In my circle the opposite applies; I have the most extraordinary varying environment. How this happend? Probably because I have sat in about ten schools and time and time again had to make new friends. It led me seeing all types of classes, races, behaviors etcetera, what has ensured that I can relate to all these differences.

“I can be at an underground gay party one moment and be in an asylum center the next. I guess these two worlds don’t always understand each other, and still it’s possible to surround myself with both worlds. Often I get the question how I can connect with “all” sorts people. In my oppinion - in the culture of fear we live in - it must be important to not only see things from our own perspective. In order to understand each other, I try to look trough glasses that are not mine and push myself to find a way in understanding where his or her view comes from. For me it’s so important to stop fearing what we don’t (really) know and start understanding the importance of unity. I mean we all bleed red right” - Daylène Kroon
